Scenography & Theatrical Architecture Exhibition Awards Greece with Gold Medal

Greece participated in the exhibition of Scenography & Theatrical Architecture, which took place in Prague and was awarded a gold medal.

“What Theatre’s Next?” was the main idea of the competition. Greek representatives, “Machine Theatre”and “Flux Office”, chose to answer this direct question by presenting old buildings, which are still functional but have a significant ambiguity. A member of the team A. Skourtis mentioned that their scenes was made up of small buildings, which had the ability to alter. Their scene was interactive, meaning that visitors attending the exhibition had the opportunity to create their own set, changing the placement of the theatre’s seats.

Greek participation was accompanied by C. Zamanis, member of the International Theatre Institute-Hellenic Centre.  It is remarkable that there was no financial support by the Ministry of Culture or any other body. The Greek team was forced to cover its own costs.

This exhibition “Prague Quadrennial” is the biggest in the world and it has been held every four years, since 1967. This event was the 11th in succession and began on the 16th June and  goes on until 26th June. More than 60 countries took part in the exhibition.
