ECHR Αsks Turkey to Pay 1,3 mln Euro to Greek Cypriot Plaintiff

The European Court of Human Rights awarded 1,3 mln euros to Kostas Kalisperas for pecuniary and non-pecuniary damage, based on an ECHR judgment of 22 September 2009 on the case of “Andreas Loizou and others v. Turkey”, for the loss of their property following the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.
Kalisperas, along with a group of 28 Greek Cypriots applied to the ECHR, which subsequently ruled against Turkey, for violating the right to respect for private and family life and the home, as well as violating the right of property, on account of the applicants’ deprivation of their home and properties.
In the ruling, the Court also awarded 15,000 euros to the applicants jointly, which Turkey has to cover with regards to costs and expenses.
