The opening of the exhibition “Russian Translations of Modern Greek Literature”, took place yesterday evening at the Russian State Library, in Moscow.
The exhibition was organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Greece and covers editions and publications of Greek authors’ works in Russia, starting from the Soviet period until now. During the event of the exhibition’s opening, at the central building of the Library, actress Yulia Peresild read “The Monogram” (To Monoghramma) of O. Elytis and reciter Valeriy Petrov poems of C. Cavafy. Pianist Irina Chistyakova played pieces of composer Vasily Kalafati of Greek origin, who lived in Saint Petersburg (1869-1942).
The exhibition includes a large variety of selected editions, anthologies, journals and newspapers, where works coming from Greek literature were published. The exhibition also includes the publication of a volume dedicated to Russian translations of modern Greek literary works, which was presented by the Ambassador of Greece Michael Spinellis. The Greek Ambassador promised to help Russian translators and researchers who are interested in Greek literature in any way he could. The edition of the volume belongs to the Division of Byzantine and Modern Greek Philology of Moscow University (Lomonosov), which starting tomorrow, will host a workshop with the participation of many Russian Hellenists.
