Prince Charles Enamored with Pontiac Lira Melodies

33-year-old Matthew Tsahourides (photo) is the Greek that charmed Prince Charles with his melodies. “The concert took place at Bridgewater House, home of the Latsis family in London. The Foundation “Friends of Mount Athos”, in which Prince Charles is an official member, organized this event with financial support from the Holy Chilandari Monastery of Mountain Athos.”With my brother Constantine we played music from our group “Body and Soul”, music for piano and Pontian lira. A combination of modern and foreign melodies.
Prince Charles is known for his interest and love for the music and arts. That evening, however, I must confess that he hadn’t taken his look of the Pontian lira. He had never seen in his life such a musical instrument. At the end of the concert he came and talked to us. “What is this musical instrument, how it is called and where is it from?” These were his first questions. He took my lira in his hands and he looked at it. “Your Royal Highness”, I answered him, according to the protocol and explained him quickly and briefly the subject of my thesis on the Pontiac lira and its music. He made a number of questions; he even said that he has a house in Romania and that there are violinists who play fast melodies, like those we performed that night. I immediately played a traditional Romanian rhythm on the lira. He did not hide his admiration. I greeted him warmly and he left. It was a unique and memorable experience. “
