Germany Says “No” regarding Financial Salvation of Greece

Germans say “no” to the financial salvation of Greeks, for the sake of their glorious ancestors. According to Forsa Institute, they say “yes” to knowledge concerning ancient Greece and to the country as a tourism destination.

Is the glory of our ancient ancestors enough to save contemporary Greece from a financial disaster, towards which the country is moving? 90% of Germans who were asked by the polling company Forsa for P.M. PERSPEKTIVE magazine believe that there is no way. The fact that Greece was the cradle of culture is not a reason for today’s Germans to put their hands in their pockets, as they say. The scientific magazine P.M. PERSPEKTIVE, which hosted the poll, is published every three months. As for the reasons why the magazine chose to publish the survey, chief-editor Dr. Sascha Priester stated in Deutsche Welle: “In this issue, which is already available with a DVD, we have a tribute to ancient Greece. A subject that we examine from different and sometimes new perspectives which are surprising. We wandered what is that which we should know today about ancient Greeks. Ancient Greeks were eminent for their qualifications in architecture, philosophy, art and martial arts. However, today, Greeks have to face a negative press, which claims that they are champions in debt. What we want is that in this representative survey of Forsa Institute everyone says their opinion.”

Yes to ancient Greece
Mr. Priester has studied archaeology and he has been to Greece several times. “In my opinion, regarding the negative comments of the press, there were many generalizations and very little analysis, as it usually happens when such problems are under discussion. In this issue we kept a distance from those controversies. Not totally, as the problem is of current interest, but we mainly present ancient Greece”. Germans say yes to ancient Greece. ¾ of the people asked think that knowledge concerning ancient Greece should remain an inseparable part of school education. This opinion is expressed by more and more people with higher education levels, the rate is about 83%.

Finally, Greece is still a favorite tourism destination. 60% of the people who participated in the survey would be interested in visiting the Acropolis, Delphi or ancient Olympia. This rate was at 71% in younger people.
