Federation of Greek Communities in Germany to become Migration Policy Council Member

The Federation of Greek Communities (OEK) in Germany will become a member of the Migration Policy Council.  This was established by a decision from the Minister of the State Maria Bohmer.
Describing the functions of the Council, Ms. Bohmer, characterized it as a forum, where Germans and immigrants “will not speak of one another”, but “we will be holding open and honest discussions, in order to jointly reach constructive solutions”.
“The inclusion of OEK in this new German government body, for its policy regarding immigrants, which in accordance with the government’s organization chart will be directly addressing the Chancellor, is another manifestation of trust towards the organized Greek Diaspora, as a trusted advisor of the Chancellor”, stated OEK Germany in their announcement.

The Migration Policy Council will be comprised of thirty-two members, where ten selected immigrant organizations will be participating.  These organizations include OEK, but also three official Christian dogmas of the country (Catholic, Evangelical and Greek Orthodox Church), and the Russian Orthodox Church in Germany.
Institutional bodies include the Parliament’s Internal Affairs Committee, the Standing Conference of Federal State Integration Ministers, unions, employers, the Federal Institute of Labor, social institutions, scientists and researchers.
The main issues to be addressed by the Council will be language (German and native languages), education, vocational rehabilitation and integration into German society.
