Rival Cypriot Leaders Schedule New Meeting Regarding U.N. Negotiations

President of the Republic of Cyprus Demetris Christofias and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will be holding a new meeting on January 12th.  It will be in the context of U.N. led direct negotiations to solve the Cyprus problem.
The meeting will be preceded by a meeting of the aides of the leaders of the two communities, George Iacovou and Kudret Ozersay, on January 5th.
In statements to CNA, Iacovou said that, according to Eroglu’s doctors, the Turkish Cypriot leader, who recently underwent heart surgery, will be well enough to attend the meeting on January 12th.
Iacovou noted that during yesterday’s meeting with Ozersay, they discussed issues concerning governance.  He added that on January 5th, they will be discussing issues relating to the economy and the EU, in preparation for the leaders meeting on January 12th.
Asked if during the meeting with Ozersay he raised the interruption of the Christmas liturgy in the Turkish occupied areas, Iacovou said he did not. Representations had already been made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the U.N.

I dont know why they are having the meetings. Nothing will come out of them. As long as the NEGALO IDEA exists, as long as the Greek side keep on dreaming about going back to their homes they left in 74, As long as they want Enosis with Greece, and as long as they demand that Turkish troops get out of the island and more…
Forget it it will not happen. The Turkish troops are here because of the problems created by the Greeks. The problems which they started in 1963.
With the Turkish Army in Cyprus the Turks and Greeks of Cyprus found peace.
In order to solve the problem there must be a desire for people to live together. How can this be when the Greeks will not see us as their equals. How can we trust them if the chidreen are pumped hatred in there schools and Church?
