Greek Pensioners Retire in Petrich, Bulgaria

Many Greek pensioners have settled in the southern Bulgarian town of Petrich. Greek retirement payments which are between 700 and 800 euro per month, give them a higher standard of living in Petrich. Our southern neighbors rent comfortable flats.  Wealthier pensioners are buying mansions.
“The cost of life here is 50% of what I normally spend in Thessalonica per month” says 65 year old Kostas Vangelis. There are many Greeks in the town.  Some of them have married Bulgarian women, he added.

“Our southern neighbors like it here – the life is calm and its much cheaper than on the other side of the border” stated Petrich Mayor Velio Illiev.
