Over 2,000 Roma from Bulgaria’s Lom emigrate to Greece, Italy, Spain and France

More than 2,000 Roma from the northwestern town of Lom have emigrated to Italy, Greece, Spain and France. The highest number of Roma work in Italy. There are only three families in France, Nikolay Kirilov, a municipal councilor in the town and chairman of the local foundation Roma.
He thinks the reasons for the emigration are economic, because the emigrants look for a job.
“In Italy and Greece the Roma work in the field or take care of elderly people. They are paid between EUR 600 and EUR 800 a month. In France the emigrants work in the construction sector and in Spain they work in the field,” added Kirilov.
