In the University of Berlin (Freie Universitat Berlin), the studies of Modern Greek are being further developed as the next semester a new postgraduate programme is going to be inaugerated. This is two-year programme which will have Modern Greek as the work language and the students will not pay tuition fees!
The cycle of studies will be of two years and the students will have the opportunity to complete their thesis in Greek, German or English.
Miltos Pechivanos, the professor of Modern Greek Studies in the University of Berlin said that ” The University of Berlin is the only university in Germany that offers a complete cycle of Modern Greek studies-undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate”.
This postgraduate programme gives emphasis on issues of Modern Greek History and critics of Literature, Mental and Cultural History.
«The existence of a complete study programme concerning Modern Greece contributes to the diffusion of knowledge as far as the Greek language and civilization is concerned especially during this period that the Greek-German relations are at stake and the myths and prejudices of the past come into light again and again. This programme of Modern Greek studies aims at contributing to the develpment of the Greek-German relations», said Mr. Pechlivanos.
