The German travel magazine Merian which has its headquarters in Hamburg realizes a great promotion of Crete in the beginning of the tourist period. This is a magazine of about 100000 copies and the issue of June is dedicated to the Geek island.
The magazine consists of 130 pages with a very rich photographic material of high quality and is a unique travel guide that provides many useful information as well as many articles of tourist, gastronomic, historic, archaeological and social-political content which show every single attraction of the island.
In the editorial, among others, we can read that “the island with the first superior European civilization combines the present with the endmost past in a great extent and like nowhere else”.
The magazine also contains an interview of Mikis Theodorakis who refers to his origins and emphasizes on the island and its influence on his musical work. In addition, Toplou monastery is presented for its exemplary maintenance and its relics and for the fact that is “a very modern and successful business”.
We can also read statements of the abbot Philotheos on how important is this big tourist investment which is promoted for the supply of work positions.
