On Wednesday, 2/6/2010 at the Embassy of Greece in Ankara, an event was held for the fourth year students and the professors of the Modern Greek and Literature Department of the University of Ankara.
Around 20 students participated in the event, accompanied by the President of the Departmeht, Ms. Damla Demirozou, professors, Ahmet Ibrahim Kelaga, Iskender Osman and Dimitris Demirtzis, detached educator by the Greek Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs, as well as the founder of the department, Professor of Byzantine Studies at the University of Ankara, Ms. Melek Delimbasi.
The event was held in an especially warm atmosphere, with speeches made by the Ambassador of Greece in Ancara, Mr. Ksidas and professors, as well as the awarding of honorary plates to the Head of the Department and Professor, Mr. Demirtzis, a Greek of the Diaspora from Imvros, for the completion of 8 years in his post at the Modern Greek and Literature Department of the University of Ankara.
The Modern Greek and Literature Department of the University of Ankara was established in 1990 and receives annual funding by the Greek Ministry of Culture and Education. It is hosting around 80 students, whilst through its remarkable material it contributes to the promotion of the Greek Culture in Turkey but also the promotion of Greek Turkish friendship.
It is noted that the Embassy of Greece in Ankara is always on the side of the Modern Greek and Literature Department providing any possible form of contribution towards students and professors and participating in the activities that it organizes at times.
