Sophia Loren cuts the ribbon to officially launch MSC Magnifica. Nana Mouskouri in left
Hollywood legend Sophia Loren has christened her first cruise ship, it has been reported.
The 75-year-old was joined by Greek singer Nana Mouskouri and Italian singer Eros Ramazzotti for the naming ceremony of the SC Magnifica, the Daily Mail reported.
Wearing a floor-length black dress, the actress officially christened Panamax’s 11th cruise ship at the weekend by cutting the ribbon and sending a bottle of champagne crashing into the side.
In 2007, Camilla Parker Bowles wasn’t so lucky – she christened a Cunard liner but the bottle remained intact, which is considered a sign of bad luck.
The SC Magnifica, which was a retractable roof, is 293 metres long and 32 metres wide. It boasts four pools, 17 bars and lounges, four restaurants, a 4D cinema, a spa and a mini-bowling alley.
Last week, Sharron Livingston, editor at thetravelmagazine.net, said cruises are often a good choice for people looking for a bargain holiday.
“Cruises are a really good bet: though prices haven’t come down too much, the cruise companies have added value such as on board credits, free flights and even free excursions,” she noted.
